By [Craig Coffee](/craig-coffee)

When I moved and was changing my cell phone number, I asked for a choice. Saying my number was hard for me, and I wanted one I could say better.

I went into the store in person and asked the person in charge whether I could choose from the numbers. [I explained that I stuttered](/telling-people-you-stutter).

They told me they didn't normally allow it, but they understood. They let me look at a page of about twelve or fifteen choices. I picked the one that was best for me to say.

It was still a struggle to some degree because I was speaking. But this was something I had done successfully years before I told the story.

## The second idea I mentioned

In the same recording, I mentioned a second number through an internet calling service as another possibility. The thing I described having done myself was the store visit.

That was the opportunity I had: I was changing my number, and I asked. They made an exception to what they told me they normally allowed.
